Chicken Pox Panic

book cover of The Chicken Pox Panic (Cul de Sac Kids) by Beverly Lewis

There is a Chicken Pox Panic in our town! Excellent news for this mom who does not vax against the pox. I'm certain one of my littles was exposed, her friend has come down with it! Hmmm, with the likelihood of successive cases instead of concurrent cases (nothing is ever easy with childhood illnesses, I have memories of 6 weeks of stomach flu) we could be dealing with the pox in the Thorns household through February or March. But it will be time well spent! I would rather deal with it as an immune parent of sickies than have them deal with it as sick adults. I cannot tell you how happy I am that this is panicking the town!

Pray for us that we have sick kids soon, now they will not have to consider the vax as adults! Time to go stock up on comfort items! Maybe I should buy this book!

I will keep you posted, and if the throes of the illness gets me down, you can all remind me this is what I had hoped for! ;-)

Here's hoping all your kiddos come down sick. What an odd thing to wish for. LOL

Yes, it is a bit of a joke around here. At first they were horrified when I said I wanted them to get sick (LOL). The looks on their faces were priceless. Then when I explained I would rather they get sick then have to put it off until they were adults, or take vax and boosters indefinitely they thought I wasn't quite so crazy.

Everyday I ask (even though it is too soon) "Are you feeling sick yet?" They all laugh and say, "No, Mom, I feel fine." Then I ask, "Are you itchy yet?" Inevitably they are...power of suggestion, hehe. But they get a nice little back scratch out of it :-)

Lily,

Chicken pox, schmicken pox - mine haven't had it yet, but if it happens, we'll deal with it - same as my mother and my late mother-in-law did.

We're not going to vaccinate against chicken pox either and I sure hope I can find some sick kids to which to expose my kids (what a thing to wish for). I *really* don't want them to get it as adults. Now, why would your kids not get it till Feb.-March? Is it a months-long incubation (or whatever the word is I'm forgetting)?

Katherine,
the incubation is 14-21 days. If the children get it in succession instead of all at the same time we could have the pox until Easter almost! I'm hopeful first that they come down with it (what a mom!) and second that they get it at the same time! Is that too much to hope for?!

All of mine that HAVE had them had them at the same time...this included ME! Bleh! It was terrible! But it was much better to have them all done at once, that's for sure. Now I have to find someone who has them again, because #s 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 haven't had them yet.

Any "developments" thus far, Lily?

I had 3 have it, and as you said, it wouldn't be all at the same time, but one after another. It lasted all one summer.

So stock up on the comfort foods, nail clips and emory boards (to keep the nails short and smooth) and a fan to keep the itchy pox cool and not as itchy.
